Description
Provides training and technical assistance to jails to establish and maintain safe, humane, and effective environments for their populations, including incarcerated individuals, staff, and visitors. Focuses on policy, operational practices, and professional development in a range of core topic areas, including medical, mental, and behavioral health services for the target population.
What This Program Offers
Jails and Justice Support Center can provide:
- Customized virtual or on-site technical assistance provided by subject matter experts to support jails in core topic areas focused on life, health, and safety issues
- Toolkits on the topics of screening and assessments and medical and behavioral health
- Core topics library with resources on a range of areas to support jail operations, such as programming, reentry, use of force, medical and behavioral health, and more
- In-person and virtual events for jail practitioners
- Information and referral to BJA, National Institute of Corrections (NIC), and other federal programs that support jails
Who Can Receive Services from This Program
Local or tribal jails facing significant risk to the life, health, and safety of their staff, incarcerated population, and/or visitors are eligible for assistance.
