Description

Provides training and technical assistance to enhance the social and emotional well-being and improve outcomes for children and families impacted by substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and child abuse or neglect. Supports agencies and professionals in developing policies, procedures, and practices that promote recovery, safety, and stability for children, youth, and parents at risk or currently involved with the justice system and for those who have experienced maltreatment, violence, and other forms of trauma.

What This Program Offers

National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare can provide:

  • Customized technical assistance provided through virtual sessions, in-person site visits, and individualized coaching
  • Training in the form of online tutorials, videos, webinars, and a Child Welfare Training Toolkit
  • Current research providing child welfare and substance use disorder statistics, an interactive bibliography search, and information on key legislation, policy, and funding
  • Resources, including publications, tools, state and local examples, on a range of relevant topics

Who Can Receive Services from This Program

Eligible participants are agencies, organizations, and courts working with families affected by substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and child abuse or neglect, including but not limited to:

  • Child welfare agencies
  • Court systems
  • Substance use and mental health disorder treatment centers
  • Public health agencies
  • Healthcare and early intervention providers
