Description

Provides training and technical assistance to organizations, communities, and individuals involved with the justice system, including judges, attorneys, justice officials, community organizations, and others working to create a more fair, effective, and humane justice system. Offers hands-on support to help plan, implement, research, and evaluate new policies, programs, practices, and technologies to achieve systemic change, resulting in safer communities, reduced incarceration, and improved community perceptions of and relations with law enforcement and the justice system. Focuses on the following areas of reform: preventing crime, rethinking incarceration, strengthening families, engaging communities, improving decision-making, aiding survivors, and advancing fairness.

What This Program Offers

The Center for Court Innovation can provide:

  • Technical assistance to help plan and implement a range of projects related to justice system reform
  • Site assessments on procedural justice, evidence-based practices, and other topics
  • Drafting and reviewing of program policies and manuals
  • Local, regional, and national training presentations on topics such as community justice, domestic violence, and more
  • Independent evaluations and customized performance monitoring systems
  • General trouble shooting and strategic planning
  • Site visits to model programs in and around New York City and other mentor programs across the U.S.
  • Online learning resources, research, publications, and media in a variety of formats

Who Can Receive Services from This Program

Local and state criminal justice agencies, and organizations, groups, and individuals working to change or reform the justice system. This can include judges, attorneys, justice officials, community organizations, and others.

Application

There is no application process and no-cost to receive training and technical assistance on the community court model for local and state criminal justice agencies. Additional assistance may be provided free of charge to qualifying jurisdictions.
