Description

Manages the Indian Health Service (IHS) wide area network, which enables the effective use of electronic health records (EHR) and ensures the secure exchange of electronic health information (EHI) between healthcare providers in order to improve healthcare quality and efficiency. Provides internet access and network connectivity to over 400 federal, tribal, and urban healthcare facilities in the IHS Wide Area Network that serve American Indian and Alaska Native people across 35 states, as well as to healthcare partners, such as insurance providers, laboratory services, and pharmacies.

What This Program Offers

The Indian Health Service (IHS) IT Network Operations and Support Center (NOSC) can provide:

  • Access to help desk specialists to resolve technical problems related to the IHS Wide Area Network 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Monitoring for faults in the network system and assistance to start repairs with telecommunication vendors
  • Security controls, such as firewalls, and customer service to plan changes and support applications that are blocked or limited
  • Repairs or changes to router connectivity for the IHS Wide Area Network
  • Monitoring of network traffic to assess network readiness for new services and capacity planning
  • Analysis to develop best practices for the configuration of all network devices
  • Consulting and design assistance to support the development of area IT department expansions and re-designs

Who Can Receive Services from This Program

Federal, tribal, and urban facilities that utilize the IHS network are eligible for assistance.
