Purpose
Provides financial assistance to eligible entities to receive or deliver broadband technical assistance and training to promote the expansion of broadband into rural areas. Technical assistance activities include, but are not limited to:
- Project planning and community engagement
- Operations
- Financial sustainability
- Environmental compliance
- Construction and engineering planning
- Accessing federal resources
- Data collection and reporting
Amount of Funding
For technical assistance providers:
- Award range: $100,000 - $1,000,000
- Total funds available: $15,000,000
For technical assistance recipients:
- Award range: $50,000 - $500,000
- Total funds available: $10,000,000
Project period: 2 years
Estimated total program funding:
$25,000,000
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants include:
- Federally recognized tribes and tribal entities
- State or local governments, including agencies and subdivisions, among others
- U.S. territories or possessions
- Institutions of higher education, including 1862 Land-Grant Institutions, 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, 1994 Land-Grant Institutions, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities
- Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) IRS status
- Cooperatives or mutual organizations
- Corporations
- Limited liability companies or limited liability partnerships
Eligible projects must promote broadband expansion into a rural community, defined as any area not located in a city, town, or incorporated area with a population greater than 20,000, or an urbanized area next to a city, town or incorporated area with a population greater than 50,000 people.
Eligible areas must be completely contained within a rural area or composed of multiple rural areas. Use the Broadband Technical Assistance mapping tool to determine if your project is located in an eligible area.
