Purpose

Awards grant funding to provide technical assistance and training to rural community facilities programs with the goal of helping rural areas identify, plan, and provide for their needs for community facilities. Includes assistance for essential facilities, such as schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities, public facilities and infrastructure, community support services, and public safety facilities, among others.

Eligible technical assistance and training activities include:

  • Assisting communities in identifying and planning for community facility needs
  • Accessing public and private funding sources for community facilities
  • Preparing necessary reports and surveys to apply for financial assistance
  • Preparing applications for Rural Housing Service's Community Facilities Programs
  • Improving the operation and financial management of community facilities
  • Assisting with other areas of identified need

Amount of Funding

Award ceiling: $150,000
Estimated number of awards: 10
Project period: Up to 3 years
Estimated total program funding: $540,000

While cost matching is not required for participation in this program, preference is given to applications with cash matching funds. In-kind contributions cannot be used as matching funds.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include:

  • Public bodies
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Federally recognized tribes

Under this funding opportunity, an eligible rural area is defined as a city, village, township, town, and federally recognized tribal land outside the boundaries of a city with a population of 20,000 or more.

Partnerships with other federal, state, local, private and nonprofit entities are encouraged.
